ABSTRACT
Identity and Diversity are an appealing pair often argued of.
Identity is a concept related to sameness, but also to the identification of the personality of the individual. On the other hand, Diversity involves the idea of not being the same as another entity: it is directly connected with differences.
People tend to be scared of what is different from their concept of Identity, although identity itself is unachievable, as it represents something not already known, maybe dangerous.
However, in this world, where globalization has occurred, homogenization is spreading and taking the loss of the individual’s identity: this value is then searched, but at the same time Diversity seems to be the cause of the general unease. Whatever the problem appears to be, this is not the solution, as Diversity is a source of richness: it is the tension towards Identity that makes human beings improve, but it is through Diversity that this tension is experimented; otherwise mankind would be static. It was William Blake to assert that complementary opposites, like Identity and Diversity, lead to progress.
